Lishawn Alexander is dedicated to building and enhancing the community’s capacity to create positive, lasting social change in government and beyond. Lishawn has a deep commitment to providing much needed support to local nonprofits to achieve better governance, financial management, and legal compliance to improve the overall strength and sustainability of the entire community. She has worked with thousands of leaders and organizations throughout the city helping them achieve higher accountability and oversight to better serve the needs of the City’s most vulnerable population. 

Lishawn, who received her Bachelors and Master’s degree in Urban Planning from Hunter College, joined CUNY- Medgar Evers College as an Adjunct Professor in the Spring 2017 teaching Decision-making in Government and hopes to encourage the decision-makers taking her course to make prodigious change in government at every level. Since then, she has taught many courses including, but not limited to Introduction to Public Administration and Nonprofit Management, and today is teaching Principles of Philanthropy Fundraising & Development. 

As a Senior Analyst for the New York City Mayor’s Office, Lishawn Alexander managed the communication to nonprofits through our web content and social media channel (NYC.gov/nonprofits, @NYC_Nonprofit). She organized a borough-wide Capacity Building Training series sponsored by the NYC Council as well as provided customized and individualized technical assistance to all of NYC’s nonprofits. She brings her wealth of experience, passion, and a unique perspective to the complex issues that nonprofits face. It is her interest in the social sciences, her experience in urban planning, and her steadfast focus on results that leads to significant progress with a wide variety of stakeholders. She has an established record of success in supporting diverse organizations and government agencies.
